Remarks at the Australian of the Year Awards
Well it's great to be here on this perfect Canberra evening and it's an honour to be in the company of Ben Robert-Smith and so many other great Australians.
Tomorrow we will celebrate the ties that bind us, the values that sustain us and the history that has shaped us. But tonight, we usher in our national day of celebration by honouring the best in our people and the best of our people.
Australia Day Message
Today, across Australia, at BBQs, citizenship ceremonies and community events, we will celebrate everything that is good about our country.
Australia Day celebrates the ties that bind us, the values that sustain us and the nation that we have become.
Modern Australia has an Aboriginal heritage, a British foundation and a multicultural character.
Remarks at BBQ Lunch with ADF personnel
It is a real honour for me to be here at this time.
I am incredibly proud of you and your work.
I think every Australian is proud of you and your work.
Remarks at Joint Press Statement with the Iraqi Prime Minister
It is an honour to be here in Baghdad with Prime Minister Al-Abadi.
It is an honour to be able to say thank you to the Australian armed forces personnel who have been helping the government and the people of Iraq in the struggle against the Daesh death cult which now holds sway over much of Eastern Syria and significant parts of Northern Iraq.
This is an important struggle.
New Year Message
Right around the world, Australia is seen as a beacon of hope and opportunity.
To be an Australian is to win the lottery of life and this is the foundation of our optimism as we enter 2015.
We should feel confident about our country and its prospects and while 2014 had its challenges, much was achieved.

It’s terrific to be here in Colac. It’s great to be with Sarah Henderson, the incredibly hard-working local member, and it’s good to be here at Bulla Foods. This is a great Australian success story – a one hundred year old family business which has recently expanded dramatically, in large part to take advantage of our exports markets. Bulla are exporting to more than 20 countries around the world. Their big export markets are in Asia and they are going to benefit enormously from the free trade agreements that this Government has secured.

The 2015 COAG agenda will address the problem of violence against women at a national level. To advise COAG on these actions and other initiatives, I have established an Advisory Panel on violence against women. I am pleased that retiring Victorian Police Commissioner Mr Ken Lay APM, and the 2015 Australian of the Year, Ms Rosie Batty, have agreed to be the founding members of the panel. Further announcements regarding membership of the panel will be made in due course.

I was very pleased to meet with Papua New Guinea’s Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill, in Canberra today. That we met on Australia Day reflects the close and enduring partnership between the two countries. It is also significant that we met so early in the year which mark’s PNG’s fortieth anniversary of independence. Prime Minister O’Neill and I discussed a range of important bilateral and regional issues, noting that our economic links continue to expand.

It’s good to be here on Australia Day in our nation’s capital. I can’t think of a better place to be than on the shores of Lake Burley Griffin with our national parliament in the background. So, good to be here. For 364 days of the year we can strive to make our country better but for this one day of the year we can celebrate everything that we have achieved and it is great to be doing that today.
